A BESPOKE COMMISSION BY HELAINE BLUMENTHAL
The ancient practice of marble sculpting is one of mastery, elegance and patience – crafting dream-like sculptures in stone to an unparalleled status of expertise and finesse. The contrary states between the permanence of the material and the innate fluidity of the finished sculpture lends an endlessly poetic voice to the craft. We were honoured to be given the opportunity to commission Helaine, who has created works for the likes of the Tate, the Courtauld Gallery and the Smithsonian, and to visit her workshop and preferred marble quarry in Italy. Forming a pair, the sculptures now gracefully adorn the entrance of our client’s London abode, effortlessly becoming one with the architecture and interior of the building, as if it was forever their fate to do so.
The bespoke nature of the sculptural pair lends a poetic voice to the space they now call home.
